More businesses are utilizing social media as a way to reach their target consumer market. Social media in China is no different, and is rapidly growing in popularity.

As of 2015, it was estimated that 6.5 million people in China are using some form of social media. When compared to the previous year, 65% more social sharing is happening on these social media platforms. The top four most utilized social media platforms include:

  • Tencent QQ with 830 million users
  • QZone with 755 million users
  • Sina Weibo with 600 million users
  • WeChat with 468 million users

The consumer market is rapidly changing thanks to social media, and this is due to the ease people have in sharing their purchases. In fact, Chinese social media has been known for helping target new trends, increase consumer appreciation of brands, and encourage certain items to be purchased. This is a power that many would not have imagined when social media first entered onto the scene.

With just a few clicks, a consumer can immediately make or break a company with what they say. This is an important note that many Chinese businesses are now focusing on.

The Social Media Market for Businesses

Businesses who are trying to make it in the Chinese market have found it necessary to have a strong social media presence. Many businesses are devoting entire departments to researching the latest trends and applying their business to this trend. Businesses who have strong social media ties are more likely to develop loyal customers and attract new customers in the long run.

Chinese social media is only going to grow in the future, as more people start using social media platforms. It is estimated by most professionals in the market there will be at least one million more users of social media by 2017.  Other social media stats about China:

  • Social media attracts the higher percentage of users between the ages of 26 and 30 years of age
  • Mobile devices are often the most used device for accessing social media
  • Most Chinese users spend 90 minutes on social network platforms

With the numerous social media networks in China, the country is headed towards being one of the most socially active countries in the world. Businesses who are looking to make an impression in the market must utilize these social networks, as consumers are becoming more active every day.
